Two Republican congressmen have introduced legislation to block the Biden administration from importing refugees from Palestine.
Wisconsin Rep. Tom Tiffany and Tennessee Rep. Andy Ogles introduced the Guaranteeing Aggressors Zero Admission (GAZA) Act. According to Breitbart, the measure would prevent the Biden administration from issuing visas to refugees holding Palestinian Authority passports. This would ensure that the U.S. does not inadvertently welcome those who may pose a security risk.
Moreover, the GAZA Act would stop the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from using its parole pipeline to accept Palestinians in the United States. Ogles explained the necessity of these measures, especially given the current global security climate. “At a time when the threat of terrorism is not only grotesquely on display but being encouraged and justified, it is critical that we do our best to ensure the security of our nation,” he said.
“Following the horrific attack by Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists on innocent Israeli civilians, the last thing America ought to do is trust identity documents issued by the radicals that oversee these territories,” Tiffany remarked. “We need to put our security at home first, and that starts by closing the door to bad actors who might be seeking to enter our country.”
After taking office in January 2021, incumbent President Joe Biden immediately ended the travel ban on 13 countries announced by his predecessor, former President Donald Trump. The 13 nations – Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Venezuela, North Korea, Nigeria, Myanmar, Eritrea, Sudan, Tanzania and Kyrgyzstan – were denounced for their refusal to cooperate in sharing national security data, specifically information centering on sponsors of terrorists.
According to a separate Breitbart report, Biden brought nearly 63,000 legal immigrants from the 13 countries to the U.S. – complete with green cards – from Oct. 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022. This corresponded to Fiscal Year (FY) 2022. About 7,300 arrived as chain migrants, while more than 4,300 arrived through the Diversity Visa Lottery (DVL).
“Chain migration is the national immigration policy that allows a naturalized American citizen to sponsor an unlimited number of foreign relatives, beyond immediate family members, for green cards to permanently resettle in the U.S.,” the report explained. “[Meanwhile,] the DVL randomly rewards green cards to about 55,000 foreign nationals from a multitude of countries every year, solely on the basis that they will diversify American society.”
The report also zoomed in on how individuals from three nations included in the blacklist legally immigrated.
More than 2,000 migrants from Yemen benefited from chain migration in FY 2022, while about 480 Yemenis secured green cards via the DVL in that period. More than 1,600 Iranians benefited from chain migration in the same FY, while more than 980 Iranians were awarded green cards through the lottery. Syrians also received green cards thanks to the Biden administration, with 720 benefiting from chain migration and more than 150 receiving their green cards through the DVL.
Iran has been accused of aiding the terrorist group Hamas in its recent attacks on Israel. Meanwhile, Syria remains on the “State Sponsors of Terrorism” list issued by the Department of State.
